Several of our members received prestigious honors and awards:

Karl Bringmann

PostDoc and ETH fellow at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, was awarded the EATCS Distinguished Dissertation Award 2015. The award is given annually to promote and recognize three outstanding dissertations in the field of Theoretical Computer Science.

Emo Welzl,

professor at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, was elected corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2014.

Robin Moser,

PhD student at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, was awarded Best Dissertation in the German Speaking Area 2012 for his ETH Dissertation Exact Algorithms for Constraint Satisfaction Problems under supervision of professor Emo Welzl. The award is given annually by Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI), Schweizer Informatik Gesellschaft, Oesterreichischen Computer Gesellschaft and German Chapter of the ACM.

Heidi Gebauer,

PhD student at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich from 2007-2011, was awarded the Richard Rado Prize 2012 for her ETH Dissertation "Combinatorial Games on Graphs" (advisors: T. Szabo, E. Welzl). The Richard Rado prize is awarded biannually by the special interest group on Discrete Mathematics of the German Mathematical Society for outstanding dissertations in the field.

Konstantinos Panagiotou,

PhD student at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich from 2004-2008, was awarded the Richard Rado Prize 2010 for his ETH Dissertation "Colorability Properties of Random Graphs" (advisor A. Steger). The Richard Rado prize is awarded biannually by the special interest group on Discrete Mathematics of the German Mathematical Society for outstanding dissertations in the field.

Emo Welzl,

professor at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, was elected member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences in 2007.

Angelika Steger,

professor at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, was elected member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2007.

Emo Welzl,

professor at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, was elected member of the Academia Europaea in 2006.

Dmitry Feichtner-Kozlov,

then professor at the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, was awarded the European Prize in Combinatorics 2005. The European Prize in Combinatorics was established by the European Research and Training Network COMBSTRU to recognise excellent contributions in Combinatorics by young European researchers (not older than 35). It is awarded biannually in conjunction with the EuroComb conference.
